HEALTH SERVICES
Health Services and healthcare activities currently being provided by designated staff of Al Falah University (AFU) to Students to ensure a safe learning environment and promote physical well-being of Students.
These include:
- First Aid intervention to minor health emergencies by the designated Nurse and proper referrals
- Health Awareness through Health Seminars and Free Health Assessments and Check-ups conducted in the University in partnership with Hospitals and Clinics and Health Institutions in UAE.
- Access to basic health assessment procedures in the First Aid Room
- Provide a safe learning environment for students and staff members.
- Preventing health emergencies among students with Pre-existing medical conditions.
- Provide efficient management and/or referrals during health emergencies taking place in the University premises.
The First Aid Room is where students have access to basic health assessment procedures like measuring blood pressure and blood sugar conducted by the designated First Aid Nurse. The First Aid Nurse provides management of minor health emergencies and immediate referrals to major health emergencies requiring advanced care.
Health Questionnaire and Health Declaration Forms found in the Students’ Moodle Accounts are used as assessment tools to identify students with special health cases who need special management. Medical information disclosed and recommendations from Physicians are being communicated to the Faculty Members and Deans.
Health Services at AFU
- Basic assessment checks (e.g. blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate and temperature) are some of the services offered in the First Aid Room.
- Authorized awareness campaigns at the University conducted by Dubai Hospitals and Clinics as part of Health Awareness campaigns.
- Proper referrals to health institutions in events of critical cases requiring urgent advanced medical management and corresponding follow-up thereafter.
Confidentiality and Privacy
Health information (e.g. medical records, assessment forms) are not allowed to be viewed or shared with other student/staff/faculty without prior approval of the student.
Notes and Complaints
Student has the right to submit a complaint about the services provided in the First Aid Room by filling out the form in Student Affairs, and the complaint has to be responded to by the Student Affairs within 15 working days.
Financial Payment
AFU provides health services to University students and faculty members and staff in the First Aid Room free of charge.
Medical Records
The First Aid Nurse in the First Aid Room keeps all data about all visits/cases.
Working Hours
The working hours of the First Aid Nurse in the First Aid Room at AFU are organized based on the lectures' schedule in each academic semester, so that a shift schedule commensurate with the hours of staff and students' presence at the university.
Persons Eligible for First Aid Room Services
A student registered at the university is considered eligible for the services of the First Aid Room at the University along with the University staff and Faculty Members.
Health Awareness Sessions
Student Affairs Unit in collaboration with the First Aid Nurse:
- Raises awareness about health aspects related to physical health and mental health, through the implementation of awareness meetings in partnership with health institutions and centers, or through awareness leaflets and exhibitions related to issues in public health and mental health. Student Affairs cooperates with the Nurse in the first aid room by determining the health needs of students and implementing sessions and health topics which are related to health issues raised.
- Determine the needs in the field of health services and health educational sessions, and plan the services provided based on those needs.
- Students Council has its role in health awareness through participation in the planning and implementation of awareness sessions in coordination with Student Affairs. Students can participate in proposing sessions, publications, and services by submitting suggestions to the Student Affairs Unit. After approval, implementation of approved health sessions is then carried out.
- Student Affairs prepares reports on the percentage of students who have benefited from health education, with suggestions on how to develop services.
